I have a long-standing interest in neuroprotective mechanisms following stroke and have spent my research career performing both basic and preclinical cerebrovascular research. I completed my PhD at the University of Miami in the Cerebrovascular Disease Research Center in the Department of Neurology where I worked with both clinical and basic science faculty to research mitochondrial mechanisms in stroke neuroprotection. My postdoctoral training and independent research in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison investigated epigenetic mechanisms involved in promoting brain recovery after stroke.
